Abuse Victim and Survivor Training

The aim of the one-day Abuse Victim and Survivor course is to offer all those who have either some contact with those who have experienced sexual abuse, or those who are supervising staff who do so, an introduction to Victim and Survivor Awareness. The aim is to increase understanding, risk awareness and staff support. The course offers the opportunity to explore the roots and messages that victims and survivors experience. It also offers techniques to assist with disclosure and supervision of vulnerable clients.

Target Audience:

This course provides for all statutory or independent agencies who work with those who are either experiencing or who have possibly experienced sexual abuse situations, or where there is some concern that abuse might have occurred.

Objectives

By the end of the courses, participants will:

· By way of presentation, exercise and group discussion, have identified perceptions and reality of working with victims and survivors
· Looked at fears, strengths and anxieties about work with victims and survivors
· Explored, by way of case scenario and exercise, how to deal with disclosure and how to provide appropriate assistance
· Received handouts and laminates to consolidate knowledge and assist transfer of learning to the workplace
