This two-day event will provide a clear and simple introduction to working with young offenders. This course is suitable for those who are either interested in working with young offenders, or who have just begun to do so. The course explores the roots and theories to youth offending, the Criminal Justice processes and agencies, and offers participants the opportunity to raise awareness and confidence by learning techniques and methods that will be useful in working with young people who offend.

Target Audience:

This course is ideal for those who are working with young offenders, either individuals or groups, and for those who are interested in working in Youth Justice or associated agencies and wish to increase or enhance their knowledge and confidence.

Objectives

By the end of the courses, participants will:

Receive information on the theories of working with young offenders
Identify the roles and responsibilities of the Criminal and Youth Justice systems
Explore the background to why people offend
Identify how Cognitive Behaviour works
Look at risk assessment and management of offenders
Receive information on the different ways to work in the offending agencies
Rehearse some common offender case studies and scenes
